Welcome James Hassett to the Optimate Team
This week we welcome a new Optimate to the team! Introducing James Hassett. James will be based in Brisbane and will be adding to the IT capability of Optimate. We asked James to fill in a few details about himself so we could get to know him a little better.
A little bit about myself;
I grew up with my family of five in a suburb about 50mins south of Brisbane. More recently, I have moved to Southbank with my partner to cut down on our commutes to and from University. I’m in the final stages of my Computer Science degree at QUT and will be graduating mid next year. Whilst studying part time, I have also been working full time for most of my degree in the hopes that I will graduate with both theoretical and practical industry experience. Unfortunately, my apartment doesn’t allow pets but I do try to visit home as often as I can to take our Alaskan Malamute “Storm” for walks to the beach. I’ve always been someone who likes to tinker and learn about the ins-and-outs of things which has naturally led me to be passionate about all things computers and I.T. My very first computer was a 2010 Macbook Pro which I still have running to this day, albeit with a new battery, SSD and memory. Having worked previously at a Managed Services Provider, I’ve been exposed to a broad variety of technologies and I’m excited by the ways in which they can empower and improve business. When I’m not studying or working, you’ll find me programming, cycling (road & mountain), at the beach, sailing and tinkering with my nitro RC car (and hopefully RC planes sometime soon!).
How I came to be working at Optimate;
I began working full-time in the I.T. Industry in early 2019 alongside my continued part-time university studies. As I progressed towards the completion of my degree, I’ve had the desire to move into a more specialized and challenging role. I was introduced to the world of operational data and process control during a visit to a remote power generations control room that was supported by Optimate and instantly knew this was the industry I wanted to be a part of. I’m excited by the ways in which novel technologies and big data can be applied to industry. The opportunity to work at Optimate is an invaluable opportunity for me to leverage my existing skills in I.T. whilst learning new technologies and processes in an exciting and innovative industry.
My thoughts on the future for this industry;
I see a very bright and exciting future for this industry. The ever-changing landscape and new opportunities for data retrieval, processing and extrapolation will provide companies with invaluable insights and opportunities to increase operational efficiency. I especially see machine learning playing an important role in providing more accurate predictions through training on vast amounts of historical data.
Great getting to know you a little better James!
